From the joy of receiving a gift on a festive occasion to the anxiety of failing an exam, these experiences are all expressions of our emotional state.

Subjective experience refers to the personal sense of different emotional and affective states. Each emotion is unique and can only be fully appreciated by the individual experiencing it. External expression involves the visible signs of emotions, such as posture, movement, and facial expressions, which we often use to communicate our feelings to others. Lastly, physiological arousal refers to the physical reactions that accompany the occurrence of emotions and affect, involving various phenomena across different bodily systems. For instance, when you’re nervous, your heart rate may accelerate and your face may turn red.
